Global port congestion and rising freight rates have become the main theme of the shipping industry this year.

With the strong demand for imported goods, labor shortage and the impact of the epidemic, the tension in the global supply chain is becoming more and more serious.

Generally speaking, ports in many countries are congested to varying degrees.

Asia

According to the latest shipping data, there are 67 container ships waiting for unloading near the ports of Hong Kong and Shenzhen. This is 22% higher than the same period last year.

There are also 10 ships waiting outside Tanjung Palapas port in Malaysia, and the number of ships waiting outside is 25% higher than usual.

As the main port of trans Pacific route and Mediterranean route, Singapore has always been one of the most efficient ports in the world. But recently, nearly 40 ships were waiting outside the port, 18% higher than usual.

Container ships at Busan Port in South Korea need to stay outside for more than three days before they can enter the port for unloading.

The congestion of Hochiminh and Vung Tau in Vietnam is more serious, 38% higher than usual. Cargo terminal operations at Haiphong, Vietnam's third largest port, have also been affected.

Europe and America

According to the latest data of the Southern California ocean exchange, 62 ships are berthing at the ports of Los Angeles and long beach, and nearly 80 ships are waiting for unloading.

According to local officials, there may be 500000 containers waiting to be transported in Los Angeles and long beach ports, which is partly due to the shortage of warehouse workers and truck drivers.

To this end, US President Biden announced that the port would operate 24 hours a day to alleviate the mountain of containers.

Savannah, the third largest container port in the United States, also has a serious cargo accumulation. 80000 containers are overstocked in the port, 50% more than before.

Due to the continuous delay of Savannah port, two shipping giants Dafei and Herbert announced the suspension of berthing at the port.

The situation in Britain is not optimistic. Felixstowe, Britain's largest port, is seriously congested, and the average waiting time of ships has surged from 5 days to nearly 10 days.

As the congestion in these ports worsens, it may be difficult for goods to appear on shelves this Christmas. However, shipping companies are trying to solve the problem of cargo accumulation.
