Another large port in the United States is in congestion, and the shipping company chooses to jump the port temporarily

Earlier, US President Biden announced the implementation of a 24-hour working system in the port, but the effect was not obvious.

At present, the waiting time of ships in Seattle port is nearly one month, which greatly affects the reliability of shipping schedule.

 

To this end, Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping and other shipping companies of 2m Alliance announced that they would temporarily skip Seattle port from this week. Canceled routes include tp9 / Eagle / ZP9.

 

According to eeSea's data, 2M and Zim have deployed seven ships from 4253teu to 8850teu every week. Now only Vancouver Port is left on this route.

 

It is understood that in September, the total throughput of Seattle port and Tacoma port exceeded 330000 TEUs, an increase of 7% year-on-year.

 

In its business announcement, Hapag-Lloyd said that in recent weeks, more than a dozen ships have been berthed in Puget Sound waiting for a berth in Seattle port.

 

The company said that due to the large freight volume, the current berthing delay in Seattle port is up to two weeks, and the utilization rate of the terminal has reached 90%.

 

John Wolfe, CEO of the northwest seaport alliance, said that they were considering extending the gate opening time of the wharf, but this alone could not solve the problem.

 

Eric Wright, vice president of the Washington Truck Association, attributed the land congestion to the lack of chassis for loading containers.

 

"When trucks put containers on the chassis of the warehouse, there are often delays in returning to the port for the next round of pick-up," he added.

At present, there are nearly 60 ships waiting to call at Los Angeles port and Long Beach port. In the port of Los Angeles, only four ports are handling ship berthing operations.

 

Due to the congestion of ports on the west coast of the United States, the average time from China to the west coast of the United States has more than doubled. 

Some institutions believe that this problem cannot be solved immediately in the short term and may continue until the middle of next year.
