Fire ! Causing congestion in Vancouver Port

Recently, the Canadian media reported a fire in a village in British Columbia, causing serious losses, among which the biggest impact is transportation.

Canada National Railway (CN) and Canada Pacific Railway (CP) had to suspend the transportation of goods due to the fire. At the same time, they are an important link in the supply chain of Vancouver Port, which directly affects the operation of Vancouver Port.

As of July 10, nearly 50 container ships had been stranded in Vancouver Port.

Both Maersk and Herbert have made statements that they expect the vessel to be delayed in Vancouver Port, and the impact is likely to last for two weeks.

Maersk said that we may face increased port congestion and vessel delays, but we are fully prepared.

Herbert said that the congestion may last until the end of this month, and we have taken all measures to deal with it.

Until July 13, the Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway gradually returned to normal, but the backlog of ports was still large.

It is reported that the imported goods have stayed at all terminals of Vancouver Port for more than one week, which indicates that the impact on Vancouver Port still exists.

According to the relevant data, due to the impact of the fire, the railway was interrupted, and the number of ships in the port kept piling up, reaching nearly 10.

As a matter of fact, for Vancouver Port, the impact of this railway interruption is still great, because there is a huge demand for container transportation at the port. 

According to statistics, the 20 foot container handled by Vancouver in June increased by 40% over the same period last year.

Canada is close to the Pacific Ocean on the left and the Atlantic Ocean on the right. Its geographical position is very superior, so it attaches great importance to the transportation channel between the two oceans. 

As early as the 19th century, Canada began to build a railway across the North American continent.

As mentioned just now, CN and CP are important means of transportation in Canada and play an important role in the whole supply chain.

So we can see that the impact of this incident on the cargo transportation process in Canada is not small.
