According to foreign media reports, the trade union failed to reach an agreement on salary increase again in the negotiation with the employer Peel Ports, and then the trade union announced that the workers would hold the third round of strike from October 24 to November 7 local time.

Previously, Peel Ports did not make any salary adjustment, which increased the average salary by 10.2%. This figure is higher than the inflation rate of 8.2% at the time of the first negotiation.

However, the current inflation rate has reached 12.3%. This means that the wages of workers are still falling.

The trade union further said that Peel Ports agreed to raise the wages of its German workers at the Bernahead Shipyard by 11%. Therefore, the trade union requested that Peel Ports should also provide similar treatment to dockworkers in Liverpool Port.

Liverpool Port, as an important port for importing into Europe, such frequent strikes are bound to have a great impact on the loading, unloading and transshipment of containers at the port, which will bring instability factors to the timeliness of British maritime special lines and even the timeliness of European maritime special lines.

In addition, the United Trade Union of Great Britain recently said that it would not rule out the possibility of holding a third round of strike at Felixstow Port. If labor disputes are not properly resolved, the strike will continue for some time to come.

Port congestion in Britain and even Europe will further aggravate the supply chain tension.

Several Chilean ports are on strike at the same time

On the other hand, in Chile, located in South America, about 6500 workers belonging to Union Portuaria in 23 ports launched a 48 hour general strike, demanding the agreement reached with the government to improve working conditions.

It is reported that during the strike, traffic, commerce and port operations throughout Chile will be disrupted. San Antonio, Antofagasta, Iquique and San Vicente ports may be the most affected by the shutdown.
