At the initial stage of the epidemic, there were ships queuing outside the ports of LA and LB in the United States, and container cargo piled up in the ports. However, this situation has basically disappeared.

According to the data of Southern California Ocean Exchange, the number of ships waiting for unloading outside LA/LB port this year decreased from 109 in January to 4 last week. It is clear that the congestion problem that has plagued the West Coast importers of the United States is being solved.

Some experts said that the congestion of these two ports has eased, mainly because the number of imported containers from Asia is gradually decreasing.

According to some data, the container import volume of the United States in September fell by 11% year on year and 12.4% month on month.

The total throughput of LA Port in September was 709873TEU, down 21.5% year on year; The import volume was only 343462TEU, down 26.6% year on year.

The total throughput of LB Port in September was 741823TEU, down 0.9% year on year; The import volume was 342671TEU, down 27.5% year on year.

Another reason is that more and more importers say that goods will be shipped to ports in the eastern United States and along the Gulf Coast. This gives LA/LB port more time to deal with the stacked goods.

Import containers from Asia are gradually decreasing, which also affects road and rail freight to the United States. Currently, the truck freight price index of the United States has dropped to 1.78 dollars/mile.

With the decline of global freight demand, shipping companies have had to cancel some voyages to reduce costs. According to Sea Intelligence data, shipping companies have cancelled nearly 30% of trans Pacific routes in the coming weeks.

GLA hereby reminds the freight forwarders to prepare for shipment in advance and contact the shipping company in time to avoid delayed delivery of goods.
