The port congestion in Vancouver, Canada has worsened and ships have been seriously delayed

At present, it is the traditional peak season of shipping. Although this year's peak season is not as strong as expected, the demand for shipping is still strong. Major ports around the world are also busy, and many ports are still in congestion.

Recently, a shipping company said that the congestion of Vancouver Port in Canada is gradually worsening. The import cargo volume of the port has set a record.

Earlier, a forest fire in Columbia Province led to the delay of multimodal transport, resulting in a significant increase in the stay time of imported containers.

According to the port operation data given by Herbert Roth, all ships docked at Vancouver Port will face serious cargo delivery delays.

The storage yard utilization rate of GCT wharf is 85%, which is partly due to the continuous congestion of inland railway ramps. 

The container dwell time of the Canadian Railway (CP) and the Canadian Railway (CN) increased by 6.4 days and 6.8 days respectively.

At the same time, Maersk also provided relevant data. At present, the utilization rate of storage yard of Centerm Wharf in Vancouver Port has reached 113%.

In addition, the storage yard utilization rate of Prince Rupert port is also very high, reaching 117%, and the average residence time of containers is 9.2 days.

Maersk said, "the accumulation of containers has delayed the delivery of all goods on the dock.". The company is cooperating with the wharf to cancel the port berthing and begin to levy a port congestion surcharge.

Maersk said that the freight volume arriving in Toronto continued to remain high, resulting in a comprehensive delay in the delivery of the last mile. 

It is working with truck companies to obtain additional capacity to handle the increased containers.

In order to cope with the congestion of Toronto terminal and ensure that ships will not be delayed, the operation Department is using the off-site storage yard near the terminal to store all newly arrived containers. 

When the dock makes room, they will load the goods onto the track.

In the United States, shipping companies said there was serious congestion in the ports on the east coast of the United States.

Herbert Roth's report shows that the waiting time of ships in New York port has exceeded 20 days, while as of last week, 31 ships in Savannah port have docked and waited for berths.

In New York port, the yard utilization rate of Maher wharf is 92%, while that of bayoone wharf is 75%.

Due to the congestion on the Atlantic coast, the waiting time of ships arriving at LA/LB port is greatly reduced.

It is reported that the waiting time of ships has been reduced to 3-4 days from the extreme waiting time of 30 days or more at the beginning of this year. 

Besides, the average stay time of imported goods at LA port also decreased from a peak of 11 days or more to 4.4 days.
