It is understood that the Korean national trade union freight drivers held a general strike yesterday. Truck drivers asked the government to adjust the current truck charging system to ensure their basic wages to cope with rising fuel costs.

However, on June 11, the South Korean trade unions held the third round of negotiations with the government, but failed to make new progress on wages. The next day, the truck drivers went on strike.

It is understood that the strike paralyzed the freight transport in the main ports of South Korea. This is the first large-scale strike that South Korean President Yoon sik Yueh has faced since taking office.

South Korea's Ministry of transport said that the strike of port drivers at important terminals will lead to the slowdown or even complete stagnation of cargo transportation speed in Busan Port and binze port.

On June 11, the Ministry of transport had held talks with the leaders of the truck drivers' Union for more than 10 hours, but the two sides did not reach an agreement.

At present, about 30% of freight truck drivers are on strike, and more and more people are participating.

It is worth noting that some non union truck drivers were also forced to strike for fear of retaliation.

Most steel, automobile and cement plants have suspended delivery due to difficulties in cargo transportation. Korean shippers suspended the shipment of goods because it was almost impossible to guarantee the transportation of trucks.

A South Korean steel manufacturer said that since the strike, the transportation of products has been severely restricted. A car company also said that the strike was very selfish.

Officials from the local shippers' committee in South Korea said that the port had been seriously affected by the strike.

At present, the number of goods entering the port has decreased. Although some pre arranged goods are being delivered, the current situation is still very difficult.

It is reported that the throughput of Busan Port fell sharply. On June 8, only 5418teu of goods were handled, which was 75% lower than the normal level. The occupancy rate of container yard was 75.2%, 5% higher than the average value in May.

The transportation of 70500 tons of steel products by Posco and Hyundai Steel, the two largest steel manufacturers in South Korea, was delayed.

POSCO delayed the truck transportation of 30500 tons of steel products and semi-finished products, and is considering using more warehouse space to store goods.

However, Hyundai Steel has completely suspended the truck transportation of 40000 tons of products per day after facing the interruption.
