With the reopening of Shanghai, the peak season is approaching. This is undoubtedly a huge challenge to port operators.

It is understood that many important global ports will usher in a wave of imported containers. Especially in European ports with more imports.

As the shipping companies cancelled several voyages some time ago, the empty containers in these ports piled up in the port yard.

Hamburg Port is seriously congested

Hamburg Port in Germany is one of the most important ports in the world. Now the storage yard of the port is full of containers. The same is true of Hamburg and its surrounding warehouse area.

Maersk said its service network was "under serious pressure" and the company blamed it on "disruption of European port operations". The shipping company said: "our ships have suffered serious delays in northern Europe, which has affected the shipping schedule to return to the Asia Pacific."

At the same time, Herbert Roth's executives said that the utilization rate of Hamburg's container terminal was 90%. This is mainly due to the decrease of ship unloading and customer pick-up rate.

Rotterdam port is also congested

In the nearby port of Rotterdam, the density level of its storage yard has increased to 96%. This is mainly caused by the long time of transshipment and detention of imported goods.

In addition, the operators also suffered huge berthing delays in the Nordic hub ports. Ships on this route usually have to wait four to five days after arriving at Rotterdam and Antwerp terminals, so they cannot be dispatched.

"In the past, a ship could complete the loop service from Rotterdam to Dublin in six days; now it is planned to take nine days. This means that more ships need to be deployed to maintain a fixed service."

Storage yard of Chittagong is full of goods

Not only European ports, but also Asian ports are plagued by port congestion. This is the case with Chittagong, the largest port in Bangladesh.

Due to late delivery, the container yard is full of goods, so that it is no longer possible to accept LCL goods.

At present, the freight transportation speed of container freight stations is slow. This will seriously affect the daily activities of the main seaports in Bangladesh. This port handles 92% of Bangladesh's maritime trade.

A few months ago, the Port Authority said it would impose a four fold fine on containers and goods that were delayed in the port, but this did not bring much change.

Since the Eid al Fitr holiday, the number of containers in the port yard has remained at 40000 TEUs, while the total storage capacity is 49018 TEUs. According to the port data, there are about 42153 TEU containers in the port yard.
