At present, the supply chain tension caused by port congestion still affects the normal operation of the shipping market. However, recently, the sea freight has fallen steadily, and the market demand has also decreased.

This is mainly due to the rebound of the epidemic in most Asian factories. This makes the export demand slow down, and the container transportation market has significantly regressed.

Niels, chief shipping analyst of BIMCO, believes from the latest data analysis that the demand of North American consumers for imports from the Far East may have stabilized.

Some experts believe that this has something to do with the Russian Ukrainian war, because it may hit consumers. On the other hand, the rebound of the epidemic in Asia has also delayed the demand for some freight.

From the perspective of Shanghai export container freight index (SCFI), the trend is still a downward trend, with the index of 4540.31 points. Although it is still about four times the historical average, it has shown a long-term downward trend since January.

This includes popular European routes, which fell 4.98% and is currently $7019 / TEU. North American routes also fell slightly, currently at US $8105 / TEU.

It is reported that some liner companies have reduced FAK freight rates below the average level, which is unlikely to rise in the short term. Container freight rates from Asia to northern Europe fell slightly last week due to a slight slowdown in freight demand.

Statistics from S & P global commodity insights show that FAK booking volume of USWC route has not yet risen to the level before the Spring Festival.

The performance of USEC routes is different, and the spot freight rate is between 12000-13000 US dollars / FEU. The quotation of a freight forwarder for the route from China to Savannah is US $12500 / FEU.

In South America, the direct quotation of the carrier on the West Coast route is about US $9800 / FEU, and the direct quotation on the east coast is US $9200 / FEU.

It is reported that last week, the container freight rate from Southeast Asia to the east coast of North America was US $16000-18000 / FEU, and that on the west coast was US $15000-16000 / FEU, which was US $1000-2000 / FEU higher than a week ago.

A freight forwarder from China said that the epidemic in Shenzhen some time ago led to the decline of port operation efficiency and the rise of freight.

From the current situation, generally speaking, the container market is still improving. Some people in the industry are optimistic that the market is expected to return to normal level.

However, there are still many uncertain factors in the market. GLA hereby reminds freight forwarders to pay attention to the latest logistics news in time and communicate with shipping companies in time to avoid unnecessary losses.
