Attention! Maersk's container ship lost a large number of containers in the North Pacific

It is normal to encounter many accidents in container shipping. Every year, shippers and freight forwarders suffer heavy losses because of this.

Just recently, a container ship from Maersk with a capacity of 4578TEU lost a large number of containers in the southeast of Kamchatka Peninsula in the North Pacific.

The name of the container is "DYROS". At the time of the incident, the ship was on its way from Yantian port to Seattle.

However, after the container was lost in the water, the container ship continued to sail south of unalashka Island, Alaska. The specific cause of the accident is not known.

"DYROS" was deployed on Maersk TP7 service route. At the time of the incident, it was carrying out 209n voyage, involving a number of shipping companies including Alan Ç a, Hamburg s Ü D, Maersk, MCC and Seago.

In November 2021, due to the deterioration of port congestion in North America, the waiting days at Los Angeles / Long Beach port have reached more than 20 days. Due to port congestion and delay in shipping schedule, the transportation capacity is shelved.

Mars cancelled its TP9 service from Seattle port in November and instead operated a separate TP7 service to and from Seattle port to improve the reliability of shipping schedule.

Starting from Asia, the ship docked at Qingdao port on March 8, Shanghai port on March 10-11, Yantian port on March 13-14, and then directly to Seattle port.

Maersk confirmed that its chartered vessel "DYROS" lost about 90 containers, including nine boxes containing dangerous goods, in the bad weather in the North Pacific Ocean about 1200 nautical miles east of Japan on Monday.

The 4578 TEU owned by costamare traveled from Yantian to Seattle, but will now be transferred to another port to deal with about 100 damaged boxes still on board.

Maersk said: "we regret to confirm that due to the bad weather on March 21, the 4578 TEU Liberian flag vessel" dyros "rented and operated by Maersk fell into the water in the Western Pacific and lost about 90 containers.

Nine of the containers were labeled as dangerous goods and contained lithium-ion battery equipment. " A representative of Maersk said that about 100 containers were damaged.

Although no crew members were injured, the Danish shipping company was unable to confirm which port the ship would now sail to. 

The issue was still under discussion, but the company added: "the ship can continue to sail and is heading for a safe port."
