Canadian Pacific Railway Workers announced a strike and freight transportation was affected

Some time ago, Spanish truck drivers and Indian dockers all went on strike to varying degrees, and now employees of Canadian Pacific Railway Company also go on strike.

Since Sunday morning, thousands of employees of CP rail have gone on strike and the train has been suspended. This may affect the transportation and supply of materials across the country.

The rail management department in Calgary issued a statement before midnight. Later, the Union issued a second statement saying that after the suspension, its members went on strike all over the country..

"At a time when Canadians are suffering from the consequences of the epidemic, rising prices and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the railway company is increasing more insecurity, especially for farmers who rely on the railway system," said a preliminary statement on the Union's website

They rely on trains to transport fertilizer and pesticides before sowing in spring. About 75% of fertilizer in Canada is transported by rail. Farm groups warned that any delay in the railway line would affect everything.

It is reported that there are more than 26 unresolved issues between the trade union and the company, including wages, benefits and pensions.

About 45 Canadian industry organizations said that any interruption would hinder Canada's freight capacity and damage the broader economy as it was trying to cope with inflation, product shortages, rising fuel costs and the impact of the Russian Ukrainian war.

However, industry groups hope the federal government can take further measures. Canadian industry organizations and experts called on Ottawa to avoid work stoppages, saying that once the work stoppage occurs, it may further hinder trade from recovering from epidemic restrictions and supply chain problems.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture said in a press release on Thursday that once the freight is interrupted, it will directly damage the country's reputation as a reliable source of agricultural products for global consumers.

The office of Federal Labor Minister Seamus O'Regan issued a statement in response to the matter, saying that the negotiations between the two sides are still ongoing and the railway shutdown has begun. 

It is expected that the two sides will continue to coordinate on these issues until an agreement is reached.
