In the past two years, the global supply chain has been impacted unprecedentedly. Rising freight rates, insufficient capacity and port congestion have been perplexing shippers and freight forwarders.

Recently, due to the decline in the volume of export goods, the heat of the centralized transportation market has decreased, and the global port congestion problem has gradually improved.

Many countries have also begun to upgrade the infrastructure of local ports, so as to reduce or avoid port congestion again.

It is reported that the Vietnamese Ministry of transport has also recently issued a decision on the list of Vietnamese ports and terminals. This decision will include 10 new terminals including nosco terminal and gemadept terminal link into the list of Vietnamese ports.

According to the Vietnam maritime administration, Vietnam has been deeply integrated into the international community, and Vietnam's seaport system will give full play to its role as a cargo trade hub.

The current throughput in some parts of Vietnam has increased by 48%, from 14.6 million tons to 71.7 million tons. The cargo throughput in Guangzhi area also increased from 175000 tons to 241000 tons, an increase of 38%.

On the other hand, Cambodia, another Southeast Asian country, has also built a new seaport in Kampot province. This plays an important role in supplementing Sihanouk port, another major port in the region.

It is reported that after the completion of phase I project in 2025, the capacity of the port is expected to reach 300000 TEUs, and after the completion of total construction in 2030, the capacity will reach 600000 TEUs.

Recently, the maritime administration of the U.S. Department of transportation announced that it would provide $234 million as additional funding for port related projects. This also increased the funding of the port infrastructure development plan to US $684 million, the highest amount in history.

In February, the maritime administration of the U.S. Department of transportation issued a notice of initial funding, announcing that it would provide $450 million for the port infrastructure development plan, which is twice that of last year.

The container throughput of Shanghai port is picking up

On April 30, the number of containers per day in Shanghai port has recovered to 113000 TEUs, close to 80% of the pre epidemic state.

Since March, in addition to being affected by extreme weather, all major production units of Shanghai port have always maintained 24-hour operation to ensure the safe and stable operation of the port and smooth port logistics.

From the business data, the container throughput of Shanghai port was 4.1 million TEUs in March, 12.263 million TEUs from January to March, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%.

The throughput of Shanghai port was 3.07 million TEUs in April, and 15.333 million TEUs from January to April, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%.
